Power supplied by Hyundai Heavy’s Packaged Power Stations (PPS) is proving crucial in the rescue efforts under way in Chile after the 8.8 magnitude earthquake.

The PPSs were installed at Curico, 150km away from Concepcion the epicenter of the earthquake, and Antofagasta in October 2008 and May 2009. The PPSs have 20.4MW capacity and supply electricity to 20,000 households.

Hyundai Heavy’s PPSs were the only power generators still online Port au Prince, Haiti after the 7.0 Richter scale earthquake.

The PPS installed in Cuba did not suffer any damage even though Hurricane Gustav struck the island in September 2008. This PPS also features on Cuba’s currency with the caption “energy revolution”.

“We can confirm the PPS’s solidity supplying electricity efficiently in any places. It arouses the interest in Middle and South America and Africa market,”said Mr. Yoo Seung-nam, COO of Engine & Machinery Division.

The PPS is a containerized diesel generator with Hyundai's own HiMSEN engine as its prime mover. It is easy to install and move and economical as it is fueled by heavy oil.

Hyundai Heavy has exported over 700 units of PPS to 18 countries.
