Ulsan, South Korea – December 7 – Supervisors of ExxonMobil, who have been relocated to Ulsan, South Korea to work at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for oversight of offshore plant manufacturing, set aside the whole week starting December 1 for philanthropic activities and spent their time to interact with the local community and help the underprivileged.
During the week, a broad array of charity programs were organized: 120 staff and family members visited social facilities such as an orphanage and a mentally disabled care facility to clean and maintain them and share the nation’s staple food, Kimchi. Those who were not able to join the programs raised seven million Korean won to buy household items and stationery for donations to these facilities.
These ExxonMobil employees also engaged in “No Shave November,” or “Noshemver,” a one-month program to forgo shaving and grooming to raise funds for philanthropic causes. Three million won thus raised was donated to a local orphanage.
Other charity programs included photo auctions and cookie markets.
In fact, ExxonMobil has raised and donated 10 million won for the last two years through a number of socially responsible initiatives.
Graham Dodds, President and Lead Country Manager of ExxonMobil Korea, said, “HHI and ExxonMobil have been committed to mutual development for the last three decades, starting with the historic offshore project back in 1985. ExxonMobil seeks now to go beyond business and engage with the local community for a genuine partnership.”
HHI is producing two offshore plants ordered from ExxonMobil worth $690 million.
