Ulsan, South Korea – September 2 – Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s largest shipbuilder and a leading industrial and medical robot maker, announced today it recently installed Morning Walk, a gait rehabilitation robot, jointly developed with Asan Medical Center, at National Rehabilation Center (NRC), South Korea.

Starting from NRC, HHI plans to provide Morning Walk in nationwide hospitals including National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital and Jeju Regional Rehabilitation Hospital.

Since Morning Walk does not require additional attachments to train patients, the walking-assistance robot can shorten treatment preparation time to less than five minutes. Morning Walk enables patients under mobility recovery treatment to exercise in a real-life environment with ground and stairs walking modes.

Mr. Jung Sung-hyun, vice president of HHI said, “Along with Morning Walk, we are also beefing up the development of a wide range of medical robots including tumor treatment and  orthopedic surgery robots.”

As a way to make inroads into overseas medical robotics market, HHI plans to acquire CE certification and ISO13485 for the robot by 2016.
