Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s leading construction equipment manufacturer, has recently added to its excavator line up, HX520 L, a new heavy excavator that can meet growing demand in the market for strong, reliable and economical excavators. This Tier 4 F/ EU Stage IV compliant excavator rolled out by HHI will add value for its owner, since it represents the fruition of HHI’s painstaking efforts to incorporate customers’ input.

HX520 L is among the all-new six HX Excavators ranging from 22-ton HX220 L to 52-ton HX520 L that HHI debuted along with 23 other construction equipment at INTERMAT 2015. In keeping with the tradition of Hyundai earthmoving equipment, all the excavator models that made its first appearance at one of the world’s largest construction equipment exhibitions boast many updated features that live up to the market’s expectations.

Among them, however, HX Excavators have the greatest extent of improvements on the existing Hyundai machines. The most significant features of these machines worth taking note are that all HX series excavators are Tier 4 F/ EU Stage IV compliant, more operator friendly and robust than their predecessors. Out of these HX series still, HX520 L may deserve special attention because it is the largest, most powerful of the series and thus promises to get the most value for the customers. This specific model among the HX series, named as such to stand for “Hyundai Excavators”, provides a wide range of improved features.

First and foremost, equipped with a new, fuel-efficient and eco-friendly Scania engine, HX520 L Excavator can perform three percent faster truck loading and up to six percent faster leveling and it can achieve this improved productivity with greater fuel efficiency: it is up to seven percent more fuel-efficient in leveling and it generates 90 percent less particular matters and NOx. To back up such improved performance, HX520 L offers a variety of intelligent electronic support for operators: Eco Gauge enabling economic and efficient operation of the machine that shows engine torque and average, daily and hourly fuel consumption rate; Intelligent Power Control (IPC) that controls the fuel pump flow depending on work environments; and three-mode (Power, Standard, Economy) power control to ensure fuel efficiency.

The strength of HX520 L can also be found in its durability. Proven by rigorous tests, the robust upper and lower frame structure can endure sustained external shock and high-load work, thereby making it ideal for use in tough working environments such as mining, quarrying and demolition operations. The machine certainly gets a boost from its expanded cooling module. Moreover, the equipment has improved lubricity of the connecting parts between the equipment and the attachments along with wear-resistant long-life pins, bushes and polymer. Furthermore, a wear-resistant cover plate placed at the end of the arm minimizes abrasion on the connector between the arm and the bucket. Durability of the arm and boom has also been reinforced by as much as 1.8 times, compared with the previous generation 9-series.

HX520 L offers a whole gamut of features that boost operator comfort and convenience: enhanced instrument panel comprised of an extra-wide intelligent cluster with excellent legibility; an integrated haptic type controller facilitating convenient operation; a Wi-Fi link up with the smart phone system; a radio player, a USB-based MP3 player and an integrated Bluetooth hands-free feature allowing convenient phone calls at work or in transit. On top of it all, the equipment has incorporated the low-vibration design with coil spring and damper inside the mount to reduce noise inside the cabin and improve durability, reducing the operator fatigue.

In terms of safety, HX520 L is equipped with the Advanced Around View Monitoring (AAVM) system that secures for the operator the field of vision for all directions. Thanks to the AAVM system, the operator can also detect people or dangerous objects within the five meter range. Furthermore, by using Hi-Mate, Hyundai’s proprietary remote management system, the operator and dealer service personnel can access vital service and diagnostic information on the machine from any computer with internet access. This allows preventative maintenance and reduces downtime, thereby saving money and time for the owner and dealer.

Mr. Koo Ja-jin, an executive vice president who oversees research and development at HHI Construction Equipment Division, says, “HX series excavators including HX520 L are a materialization of HHI’s long-standing efforts to meet the needs of our clients for both powerful and fuel-efficient construction equipment. We will continue to make efforts to bring greater satisfaction for our customers through ongoing product improvement. We will tide over the increasing competition on the strength of better products and services.”

Having debuted HX520 L at the INTERMAT 2015, HHI plans to introduce the equipment in the North American markets in the second half of this year.
