Hyundai Heavy Industries’ PV Laboratory Authorized by VDE

2014-11-28

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world's largest shipbuilder and a leading solar module manufacturer, said today that its PV laboratory in Eumseong, South Korea was accredited for operation of Witnessed Manufacturer’s Testing (WMT) by Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies.

With the accreditation of VDE, HHI now can perform critical quality and safety tests of solar modules it produces with its cutting-edge facilities and qualified engineers which in turn will further improve the credibility of its solar modules and shorten module development period as well as lowering manufacturing cost. HHI’s PV lab was also certified by Underwriters Laboratories in June 2014.

WMT is a manufacturer’s testing procedure under International Electrotechnical Commission for Electrical Equipment (IECEE), in which certification personnel ‘witness’ all tests carried out by the manufacturer at its own lab. To qualify as a WMT lab, which is used to test products, a test lab should show that suitability of its facilities and equipment is assessed in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.
